| Millennia ago, the entire galaxy rejoiced at the might and prosperity of the Galactic Empire. Spanning hundreds of thousands of worlds, its pride and glory was matched nowhere else in the known universe. For thousands of years the entire galaxy had known peace. But everything is transient in an infinite universe. A combination of exploding populations, a stagnation of technology, a vociferous minority of malcontents, and a series of weak and corrupt rulers led to a gradual disintegration of cohesion, and finally the sudden demise of the Empire in a firestorm of war, starvation, and pestilence. Local lords were reduced to fighting for small regional territories in a struggle for mere survival. Communications and Trade faded away and darkness descended upon the galaxy. Even now, some 900 years later, the interregnum persists. The old gods have been forsaken, transposed into new gods, yet remain the same simple myths which motivates the masses. Technology has advanced but little, and communications remain archaic and unreliable. Even the great houses of old have degenerated into mere feifdoms, struggling for survival. Using trade, diplomacy, sheer force, and the wits at your disposal can you forge a new empire and again bring peace and stability to the shattered galaxy? | Start Date 4/18/2013 |
