I. Introduction |
|
Imperium Rising is a browser based mass multiplayer strategy game where players compete for domination of the galaxy.
You start with a single planet and must administer your people, production, and military in order to make it strong.
Only then will you be able to expand your empire by colonizing uninhabited worlds or subjugating your neighbors. The idea was to create a complex multiplayer strategy game that doesn't require downloading or buying additional software to run. It also doesn't rely on chance contact or fixed meeting times in order to communicate and play the game with other players. Finally, successful play doesn't mean a large investment in time, you only need to log in once or twice a day and spend a few minutes making your moves. In order to administer your empire, you must expend body points. Different functions require different amount of body points. New body points are allocated every at a rate of 10 every 30 minutes. Planetary updates occur every 6 hours. This process calculates population growth, monetary income, production, and various other updates. |

B.) Quick Start Guide |
| Now that you have assumed your place as a sovereign lord, there are many strategies to choose from. At first, however, it is a good idea to get your home planet capable of defending itself and producing the things you will need to expand your empire. Your first few moves should be to get your population's morale to %100 by either giving them a few thousand in gold or to lower your tax rate for one update. Once your morale is %100, set the tax at 30%. Next, begin to build mines and once you have enough money and ore, build factories. You will need at least five in order to begin producing planetary defenses. While doing this, be sure to keep an eye on your housing, food, and energy. Housing is most important because if there is not enough, your population's morale will drop and likewise your production capability. Food and energy can be accumulated and stored so, if you dont produce enough whatever you have in storage will be used. Just dont let such reserves reach zero - it could be devastating. |

III. The Main Menu |
|
The Main Menu, located on the top left, contains all the functions needed to navigate to the different information pages
in the game. These options are always visible. However, some may be unavailable depending on whether or not your are
logged in. Home - The homepage for Imperium Rising. This page displays an ongoing history of the galaxy. This is where a player who makes a mark on the universe will be immortalized in the history books. Current News - This is where important news items and game information will be periodically posted. It is important that you check this page often! Also, this page provides access to the GNN (Galactic News Network) newswire where you can catch a glimpse of how the galaxy is faring overall. Player Manual - What you are currently reading. Star Charts - Browse the galaxy using the starcharts. Imperium Rising, unlike most browser-based games, hinges upon players being generated into an actual living galaxy with a definite physical location. See the next section for a detailed description of the starcharts. Roster - The Roster provides a listing of all Players, Planets, Nations, and Ranks - all linked for easy "drill-down" access to details. Forums - Provides the basic method of communicating to other players publicly. It is divided into several different catagories with differing levels of access. This is a valuable resource for the starting player since alot of information can be found here that is not contained in this manual including the current political situation, a help forum for common errors and bugs, technical information, and tips on playing the game. A forum is also provided for players to write stories concerning the rise (or fall) of nations, wars, or any other in-context literature. Imperium Rising boasts alot of players with vivid imaginations and leet writing skills. A good read! Overview - Provides key access to an overview of your empire. A detailed description of the overview page is provided in the Overview Section below. Private Messages - Provides access to the private messages sent to you by other players. These messages are not public - only you can view them. |

IV. Star Charts |
|
The starcharts show the relative position of all the planets within the galaxy. Each colored dot represents a planet.
The meaning of each planets color is indicated by the legend to the right of the chart. At zoom level x32, a series of concentric gray circles appears. Each circle denotes 1 light year. The 5th circle, bright red in color, denotes the 5 light year mark - the maximum distance your fleet can jump across the gap of space. This can be helpful to determine whether a planet you wish to attack, colonize, or move resources to is within range. Around the border of the start charts are several buttons. Those portraying arrows will shift the field of view in the direction the arrow is pointing when pressed. Alternatively, clicking on the starchart will center the field of view on the point clicked. If a planet is clicked, the Planet Information Screen will appear. Zoom buttons are also provided on the border of the start chart. Clicking these buttons will zoom the field of view in and out. |

V. Overview: The Player Information Screen |
|
Perhaps the most important screen in the game, the Player Overview shows a summation of your Fiefdom. First, you will see miscellaneous information concerning the player. Probably the most important is Body Points - a certain number of which is required by almost everything you do to maintain, defend, or expand your empire. Next is a listing of Player Messages. These are messages generated by the game that pertain to your fiefdom as a whole. Following this is a detailed listing of all the planets currently in your feif. Following this is another list showing the other players who have, one way or another, become your vassals and the amount of taxation you have levied against them. Finally, a comprehensive list of your intelligence network is displayed showing all the agents you have recruited, where they are, and what mission (if any) they are currently engaged. There are several additional menu items visible while displaying the Player Information screen. The first five are simply markers that allow easy access to each list shown. This is simply for the purpose of easy navigation should the lists ever become exceedingly long. The last item, Nation Profile, allows the player to set certain information regarding the feif such and the nation name and it's flag. This item will only appear if you are not another player's vassal but a sovereign overlord unto yourself. |

VI. Planets |
|
Inhabitable planets form the basis of galactic power. To maintain a basis of government,
a player must own at least one planet but may own as many as ability allows. There are multitudes
of planet types but inhabitable class M planets are rare indeed. However, even within the range of
inhabitable planets lies a wide variation. The Encyclopedia Galactica has classified these
variations according to size, atmospheric conditions, mineral composition, and the classification of the sun
the planet orbits. |

A.) Planet Information Screen |
|
Population : Perhaps the single most important indicator of your planet. This value indicates the raw workforce of a planet.
Assuming that there is enough food, housing, and power, your planet should thrive and continually grow.
Morale : Gauges the happiness of your population. This can be affected by many things. Is there enough food to feed them? Are you drafting too great a percentage of the population into military service? Are they being treated like cattle and being herded all over the galaxy? Keep the masses happy and they will keep you happy. Tax : No government can be self sustained without the support of the people. Tax them too high and they will revolt. Tax them low and they will love you but you will go broke. Find the happy medium. Tax them 30% and you cannot go far wrong. Arcologies : Even serfs must have a roof over thier heads. Build arcologies and they have it all. Housing, shopping centers, recreation facilities, office blocks....everything is available under these all purpose domes. Each arcology can house and supply 1000 individuals in your workforce. Farms : These vast agricultural coops are key to the survival of your planet. A single farming coop may produce food for 1000 people. However, atmospheric conditions may alter this expected output considerably. In addition, morale plays a huge factor in how much is produced. It is important to keep in mind that troops (described below) also consume food. In fact, they eat before the general population does. However, if the population starves to death and the planet is wiped out, the troops stationed there will also perish. Mines : These monolithic mining facilities are subject only to the morale of the population working them. Each mine produces 100 ore per turn. However, planetary mineral content and worker productivity may modify this value. Excessive mining operations produce pollution and may degrade the environment of your planet. Power Plants : Without power, you might as well live in caves. Luckily, modern power planets are fully automated, producing 5 units of energy per plant per turn. Factories : Manufactured items are produced in these fully automated, self sufficient robotic facilities. The more factories you have, the more components for manufactured items can be produced and the larger the items that can be manufactured. Factories produce pollution and may degrade the environment of the planet. Terraforming : Terraforming facilities can vastly improve the atmospheric and soil conditions of your planet, enhancing food production, population growth rate and maximum population. It is also an effective countermeasure to neutralize harmful pollutants caused by mines and factories. It is a slow process, however, and requires sufficient energy to keep them operating. Gold, Food, Ore, Energy, Arms, Armor : Indicates the total amount of a particular item at the planet. Agents : This is the number of unassigned agents located at the planet. They stand ready for insertion onto foreign soil to gather information. Starships, Transports, Colony Ships, Planetary Defenses : These are an indication of the fleet strength and composition stationed in orbit around the planet. Troops (Arms, Armor, Skill) : This is the number of troops, a percentage rating of those troops' arms and armor, and the skill level to which they have been trained. |
| Back To Top |
B.) Planet Option Menu |
|
View Starchart : This command will open the star charts and center them on this planet. The zoom factor
will be set to the approximate range of your fleets by default.
Rename Planet : Allows a player to rename the planet. Set Tax Rate : Change the tax rate incurred against the population of the planet. Set it too high and your population will become outraged, refuse to work, and possibly start to riot...even revolt. Set it too low and your people will rejoice, but you will also go broke. A tax rate of around 30% has been found to be traditionally optimal. Construction : Construct arcologies, farms, mines, power plants, factories, and terraforming facilities using this command. Manufacturing : Build a fleet, planetary defenses, and armaments for your troops using this command. Troops : Here you can hire troops, train them, and outfit them with armaments you have purchased or manufactured. Colonize : Use a colony ship to start a new colony on a different planet. Give : Having morale problems? Is your population acting up? Give them a tax rebate and raise thier morale quickly. Expensive but effective and guaranteed to please the masses. Move : Move anything except constructed items to another planet....any planet...assuming there is someone there to recieve it. You will need some transports to move stuff. Each transport can haul 1000 of anything. To move your capitol and/or any amount of gold, you will need at least 1 transport as well. Attack : Tired of that evil empire next door frustrating your trade and subverting your vassals? Sometimes diplomacy is no longer an option. Open a can of whoopass and bomb him into the stone age. Agents : Send an unassigned agent on a secret mission. Abandon Planet : Full Players who's planet population descends below 10,000 have the option of abandoning the planet. If this is the player's capitol and he/she has other planets under direct rule, they must specify which remaining planet they will move thier capitol to. If it is the player's only planet the player will respawn on a new planet at the rim of the known galaxy. In either case, the planet being abandoned will become independant of any player's authority until conquered or destroyed. |

VII. Vassals |
| In the vast distances of space, the only government type that is feasible is a feudal system. Each lord or noble is in charge of a specific territory and maintains absolute sovereignity over it. However, some nobles may find themselves vassaled to a higher power - an Overlord. Typically, a tax is assessed by an Overlord and usually takes the form of a percentage of the vassals total production. A vassal may also be an overlord himself with one or more vassals of his own. Thus, the power structure resembles a tree with each noble a 'branch' but the Imperial Overlord the main 'trunk' of the tree. Neither an overlord nor any vassal in the same nation can persecute a hostile action against any other vassal in the tree. |

VIII. Fleets |
|
Starship fleets provide the means of interstellar trade, communication, and warfare.
A successful ruler will see the need to maintain a strong fleet of starships. There are several
classes of starships whose purposes are described below : Starship : provides offensive and defensive capabilities. Transport : provides a means to transport troops and cargo across interstellar space. Planetary Defense : These battlestations remain in orbit around the planet where they are built. They provide exceptional defense for your fleets and your planet. Colony Ship : As the name implies, these ships are packed full of everything you need to start a new colony on an uninhabited planet. |
| Back To Top |
IX. Combat |
|
Sooner or later, diplomacy breaks down, negotiations become stalemated, and an overlord is left with only a
single option : the use of force. Expensive in both resources and body points, warfare still remains the ultimate
tool to resolve issues with aggressive and/or noncompliant neighbors once and for all.
Combat occurs in four consecutive stages : Space Combat : When an attacking force first jumps into an enemy system, both fleets immediately engage in order to dominate the orbital routes. The main line of the attack is Starships. That of the defense is the Planetary Defense networks. The second line of defense is any starships that may be orbiting the system. In both cases, all parts of the fleet, including transports and even colony ships may be involved. An attacker victory is declared when or if all units of the defender's fleet are destroyed. Likewise, the defender is victorious only when the attacker has been completely annihilated. A stalemate can occur as well. In this case, the attacker is forced to withdraw even if there remains attacking units left in his/her fleet. Such an outcome is deemed a moral victory for the defender. If the outcome of Space Combat ends in a defeat or withdrawal of the attacking forces, all subsequent phases of the attack are canceled. Orbital Bombardment : If the attacker has selected this option when planning the attack and all opposing forces have been wiped clean from the orbital routes, any units left in the attacker's fleet will encircle the defending planet and bombard the planet's surface from orbit. The results of such a bombardment are nearly unpredictable - the only rule of thumb being this : the larger the fleet, the more devastating the bombardment. Population, buildings, and troops can all be destroyed by orbital bombardment. A word of warning - unleash too much destruction and you may completely destroy the colony! If the destroyed planet is a Home Planet and the player possesses another planet, his/her capitol will be automatically moved to that location. A player who's Home Planet is destroyed and does not own another planet will flee to the edge of the known galaxy - there to begin the quest for power once more. Ground Combat : When the player has selected the option to assault the planet when planning the attack and assuming there are transports loaded with troops surviving the space combat phase, those troops will swarm to the surface of the planet and engage any defending ground forces in combat. If the defending troops are annihilated, the attacker has acheived victory and the planet is his! If, however, all attacking forces are destroyed or any defending units survive the fighting, the attacker is forced to withdraw. Post Combat : After the fighting is over and assuming the attacker has taken control of the planet, there are several options open to him on how to procede. If the planet is the defender's home planet, the attacker may choose to enforce vassalage upon him and the defender must pay the federal tax rate (up to 30%) set forth by his new overlord. If the planet is not the defender's home planet, the attacker may choose to rule the planet directly. In either case, if the attacker feels he cannot defend the planet properly or just doesn't want to, the attacker may commit the atrocity of systematically murdering every living soul and destroy the colony outright. When this option is chosen and the planet is the defenders home planet, the same result will occur as described in the orbital bombardment phase above. Finally, the last option is for the attacker to decide what to do with the victorious forces - return them to the planet from which they attacked or leave them at the conquered planet to help defend it? Keep in mind, however, that the option to leave those forces hinges upon whether there is a surviving colony left to leave them at! |
